In the area of education, from the 1990s onwards, the debate on the professionalization of vocational school teachers becomes more and more important in China. An important topic in the discussions on the professionalization of vocational school teachers in China is the “Dual-Teacher”. This thesis builds on these debates and is particularly concerned with the professionalization of the “Dual-Teacher”. Based upon the important theories of professionalization of teachers, especially in German speaking countries, a holistic reflection of the professionalization of vocational school teachers in China was carried out.
First, based on the inspiration of the professionalization theories mentioned above, the current status of vocational teachers is presented through the analysis of official statistics. The meaning of the term, “Dual-Teachers”, and its development process is then shown through the analysis of scientific documentation. Furthermore, the province of Guangxi has been selected as a study site and empirical research (both interview and survey) of “Dual-Teachers” and administrators in vocational schools was carried out there. The analysis of empirical studies show that the greatest weakness and vulnurability for devolpment of “Dual-Teachers” is in the education and management systems.
Based on the results of the empirical research in this thesis and also the document "Enactment of Professional Standards of Vocational School Teachers (Trial version)" (Ministry of Education, September 20, 2013), as well as the following standards - "Professional Standards of Vocational School Teachers of Various Teaching Subjects" and "Training Standards for the Vocational Teaching of Various School Subjects" – it is proposed to develop appropriate training schemes for student teachers with different professional experience and educational qualifications to let them become qualified “Dual-Teachers”.
With regards to the management system, the existing systems such as the staff planning system, the qualification system, and the title system, as well as the further education and further training systems should be optimised. Based on these an additional motivation system and also an exit system have been created. With these subsystems three interlinked systems, the access system, the development system and the exit system, have been designed in order to establish a coherent management system that promotes the sustainable development of higher quality “Dual-Teachers”. | English |
