| Abstract: | This study investigates Cross-linguistic Influence (CLI) at the lexical level in L1 Turkish, L2 English learners of L3 German. 282 written exams of 174 students of German as a Foreign Language at Middle East Technical University in Ankara/Turkey were analyzed for three different types of lexical CLI. The results showed that while CLI from L1 Turkish was almost completely absent, lexical transfer from L2 English was identified in various forms. These results are taken as further support for the widely ac- cepted impact of two factors on CLI in multilingual acquisition settings: psycho-typology and the tendency to remain in a ‘foreign language mode’ during the processing of additional foreign languages. |
