Abstract:

This thesis aims to analyze Key Account Management and the conflict between its theoretical model and its reality in companies. For this purpose , claim and possibilities of the model and its implementation are being compared. The importance of Key Account Management model and its essential aspects is described and analyzed as far as necessary in order to be able to evaluate the implementation into the practice. In its core the thesis specifies the contribution that Key Account Management makes to knowledge management of companies, the premises that need to be created and the aspects that need to be observed considering the implementation of Key Account Management. The role of Key Account Management is not only described as platform of knowledge and information between provider and client but also as function within the company. Within the scope of knowledge management , problems are shown that occur of the transfer of knowledge that is based on databases. The empirical part of the thesis is based on a survey within the IT–industry. It illustrates the level of implementation and the obstacles that arise by converting the model into the practice, and furthermore the reasons why model and reality differ in its implementation. For these purposes, Key Account Managers and sales managers were interviewed. Parts of the interview deals with the question, how much Key Account Management contributes as frontier between clients and market to arise knowledge and which role is referred to the functions.
