Abstract:

This thesis makes a fundamental contribution to the understanding of the antinucleation of polyamides. For this purpose, small quantities of selected antinucleating agents of various substance classes have been compounded with aliphatic polyamides in an extrusion process. Through the combination of calorimetric, rheological, spectroscopical and chromatographic research as well as comparative experiments in other polymers, it was possible to identify the mechanisms of the antinucleating agent classes. Furthermore, the dependency of the antinucleation effect on the structural features of the antinucleating agent was presented. A comprehensive analysis of the crystallization kinetics of antinucleated polyamide compounds enabled a distinct classification of the antinucleating agents regarding its influence on the nucleation and growth rate of polyamide crystallites. From these findings, the connection between the structure and the antinucleation effect of the tested antinucleating agents was established. This allowed a successful enhancement of the antinucleation efficiency through process optimization and combination of antinucleation mechanisms.
