Abstract:

The Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research FAIR is a new accelerator complex currently under construction in Darmstadt, Germany. FAIR will offer unprecedented research opportunities in nuclear, hadron and atomic physics and in several applied sciences. This manuscript discusses how FAIR will advance our understanding of the origin of the elements in the universe and of the astrophysical objects which produce them.
