Abstract: | HVDC transmission systems are of great importance for future grid extensions. Beside DC cables, DC gas-insulated lines are of interest. However, so far no service experience is available with this new type of DC equipment. To close this gap, a new HVDC test facility has been built on a test field close to the city of Darmstadt to investigate the long-term performance of a ±550 kV, 5000 A DC GIL prototype. Several load cycles shall be applied with high DC voltage and high DC current with a novel DC current injection generator following the “Cigre Prototype Installation Test” procedure. The overvoltage performance is investigated with oscillating impulse voltage superimposed to the DC voltage. |
