Kurzbeschreibung (Abstract)

The use of Micro Lens Arrays (MLA) opens the door to significant advancements in automotive headlamp design by enabling a high performance-to-packaging ratio. MLA based headlamps offer multiple advantages, including improved aerodynamics and greater design flexibility for distinctive optical aesthetics. Utilizing a compact optical element measuring approximately 18x18x5.4 mm³, this paper outlines the progression from conventional headlamp technologies to customized MLA-based solutions for front lighting applications. We will introduce a highly compact, bi-functional front lighting system that combines low beam and high beam functionalities with Adaptive Driving Beam (ADB) capabilities. The study addresses key technical challenges, particularly the interplay between optical performance and thermal management. Through detailed optical simulations, we demonstrate an ECE-compliant low beam distribution of approximately ±27° alongside a 19-segment ADB high beam with a ±14° spread and a segment resolution of 1.4° each. This study provides the basis for future developments of adaptive, space-efficient headlamp technologies based on micro-optical systems.
