Abstract:

This thesis deals with the synthesis and characterisation of self-assembling benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxamides and their application as alignment media in NMR spectroscopy. Starting point is an achiral and symmetrically substituted, benzenetricarboxamide based, lyotropic liquid crystal. Enantiodifferentiating properties were introduced in a mixed, chiral system and by selective asymmetric substitution of the benzenetricarboxamides with chiral side chains. A stabilisation of the aggregation was achieved with the use of amino acids in the side chains.
