Abstract:

Alternative AbstractLanguage

In the present work the preparation of different block copolymer architectures and the modification of surfaces based on redox-responsive and hybrid polymers is demonstrated. Especially in terms of nano science, block copolymers have attracted enormous attention because of their excellent capability for the creation of tailor-made nanostructures in selective solvents or in the bulk state. Moreover, the modification of surfaces with functional polymers can tailor the properties of the surface and the material itself. By using redox-responsive and hybrid polymers the resulting materials show additional preceramic, catalytic, semiconductive and switchable adhesion properties, for instance. The preparation and applications of block copolymers, metallopolymers and surface attached polymer systems are described regarding the state of the art in the present work. The synthesis and characterization of different ferrocene-based block copolymer architectures by means of anionic polymerization strategies and the preparation of (porous) structured and redox-responsive materials are developed and discussed in the first part of the cumulative work. Moreover, cobaltocene-containing polymethacrylates by means of (controlled) radical polymerization techniques and the characterization of the resulting redox-active and thermal treated materials are presented. The combination of cellulose-based materials and silicon- or ferrocene-containing polymers by using surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) is demonstrated in the second part of this work. The investigation of the polymer-modified substrates in terms of potential applications as sensors, microfluidic devices or ceramic materials is also discussed.
