Abstract:

Introducing transient examination methods for catalyst in the frame of a scientific optimisation approach - "the rational catalyst design" - a new catalyst on the basis of molybdenum-vanadium mixed-oxides with additives of tungsten, caesium and phosphorus was developed for the partial oxidation of methacrolein to methacrylic-acid. For this purpose, preliminary extensive investigations were carried out on heteropoly-compounds of the type H4-xCsx[PVMo11O40] (x = 0 - 3) and on mixed oxides with an overall composition of Mo9V2W1,2Ox (x = 0 - 35,6). Various details with regard to the reaction-performance of methacrolein and acrolein at these solid catalyst were established. Furthermore, the reoxidation-performance at steady state reaction conditions of the conversions of both aldehydes at H2Cs2[PVMo11O40] and Mo9V2W1,2Ox (x = 0 - 35,6) was subjected to examinations. With the introduction of 18O2, it could be verified in both cases that the reoxidation of the solid-surface does not occur by bulk-, but by gas-phase oxygen. Finally, the potential of molybdenum-vanadium mixed-oxides for oxidative dehydrogenation of isobutyraldehyde to methacrolein was pointed out.
