Abstract:

It is essential that designers of motor-vehicle cockpits see the driver as part of the driver-vehicle-environment system. This entry starts by systematizing the factors influencing the driver-vehicle-environment system and then goes on to examine features, such as design of signals, controls, and driver assistance systems. The section entitled “Anthropometrics in the vehicle cockpit” deals with the question of anthropometrics in cockpit design.
