Abstract:

In this thesis, the plane problem of a multi-material-junction, consisting of dissimilar, homogeneous, isotropic and linear elastic sectors is considered. The asymptotic behaviour of this multi-material situation is analyzed by the complex variable method, based on a choice of the Kolosov-potentials, which are applicable in the vicinity of the vertex. In the analyses, the identification of the singularity exponent is emphasized. This thesis provides some contributions to theory: It is demonstrated that the same singularity orders will be gained for a large class of multi-material configurations, regardless of using Kolosov-potentials with real- or complex-valued exponents. In addition power-logarithmic singularities are investigated using the complex potential method. On the one hand it is demonstrated that power-logarithmic singularities are of a rather academic nature, on the other hand it is shown that the set of boundary and continuity conditions will lead to a typical form of the system of linear equations for a large class of multi-material configurations. Of particular note is a method developed in this work, which is presented at the analysis of a specific bi-material configuration. With this method it is possible to derive closed-form analytical solutions in many cases. In general, the results exhibit an analytical nature, since the characteristic equation is always available in a closed form and calculating the roots can be performed numerically with arbitrary precision. In addition, all calculations could be performed with extremely high efficiency. A particular outcome of the performed investigations is that with many simple configurations supersingularities were found, i.e. singularities more severe than those due to a crack inside of a homogeneous material.
