Abstract:

Successful and economical construction requires high efficiency and quality of the construction processes. In the construction industry, methods of improving value creation and reducing waste have been established for several years, which are united under the term "Lean Construction.” The fusion of Lean Construction and digital transformation generates improvement potential for the construction industry, such as the possibility of real-time and thus active construction process control. This requires real-time detection and real-time control of processes. The precondition is process detection through the application of polysensory systems. The doctoral thesis contributes to the application of Lean Construction in the turnkey construction of building construction projects, with the aim of developing a monitoring system for the detection and control of work systems in real time to improve the working conditions at the workplace of finishing trades. As a result of the research work, a real monitoring system for the working environment, for the work stress as well as for the workplace supply has been developed. On the basis of sensor-based data, the short-cycle monitoring and control of the processes and thus the process transparency are improved in order to achieve a higher process quality, while at the same time improving the individual work situation of the working individual. This is intended to help maintain employability and ensure efficient execution of work processes. The developed system serves as an instrument for construction process control and offers added value to the employer, the construction site managers and the workforce in order to ensure the preservation of individual performance and entrepreneurial competitiveness in the long term. Transparency and communication in construction project organizations are strengthened by the integration of a construction information system. This is intended to open up rationalization potential for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of processes while giving adequate consideration to the individuals involved. The developed prototypes of the monitoring system are viable, as their functionality has been verified with the help of laboratory and field studies. The final linking of the monitoring system with the digital twin in the context of Building Information Modeling creates further development potential for the basic idea of this scientific work.
