Abstract:

The subject of the work is the investigation of different reaction types of some isoelectronic diphenylphosphanyl -phenylamino and -phenylalkyl prechelating ligands with trimethylphosphine stabilized methyl-nickel and methyl-cobalt-complexes. Isoelectronic [O,P]-prechelating ligands at nickel play an outstanding role in the SHELL-HIGHER-OLEFIN-PROCESS. The quadratic planar [N,P]-methyl-nickel complexes pronounce ligand dynamics and are present in equilibrium with cis and trans configured complexes concerning the phosphorous donor atoms. With a further addition of an equivalent trimethylphosphine, these complexes react by increasing the co-ordination geometry to trigonal bipyramidal structures. While one receives five membered metallocycles with methyl substituted [C,P]-pre- chelating ligands in reaction with methyl cobalt complexes under C,H-activation, analogue executed reactions lead methyl nickel complexes in a reductive elimination of ethane to low valent nickel(0) compounds. If the steric requirement of the ortho-alkylsubstituent in the [C,P]-prechelating ligand is increased gradually, cobalt complexes already react with the transition to the ethyl substituted [C,P]-pre-chelating ligand regioselectively under ortho-metallation and forces a four membered metallocycle. The co-ordination geometry of the complexes derived from the 31-P-NMR spectroscopic investigations were also confirmed by x ray data analysis of selected samples. In particular, the cobalt complexes are able to bound small substrate molecules such as carbon monoxide or ethene regioselectively and possess thereby a model character for the homogeneous catalysis. A demetallation step should enable to synthesize organic compounds other than conventional ways.
