Body Schema Integration and Emotions: The Effect of Valence and Emotional Arousal on the Body Schema Integration Process
Body Schema Integration and Emotions: The Effect of Valence and Emotional Arousal on the Body Schema Integration Process
Objective
To investigate the influence of emotions, their valence, and intensity on the integration of a rubber hand into the body schema using an electroencephalogram (EEG).
Methods
In total, n = 30 participants took part in the study and induced positive, negative, or no emotions at all.
Results
A significant difference was found in the parietal relative alpha power before and after the emotion induction, and the relative frontal Alpha power increased faster in the experimental groups between measurement times than in the control group.
Conclusions
Our results indicated that emotion induction had an influence on objective measures such as frontal and parietal alpha power, whereas valence played no role.
