Abstract:

The surface-area-to-volume ratio of about 1,6·10^7 m²/m³ makes the examined nanowires an interesting subject to analyze for the minimization of micro flow sensor's response time. This paper depicts the modeling of nanowire arrays in gas flows. It dwells on sudden temperature changes of 1 K at gas flows < 1 m/s. The simulation results suggest time constants of < 10^-3 s for nanowire arrays and more than three orders of magnitude less ones for single nanowires. Furthermore, this paper discusses a process flow for the integration of nanowire arrays in a microsystem for gas flow analysis. The grouping of three nanowire arrays is experimentally realized and eases the handling during the assembly process. It enables double-sided interconnection of the nanowire arrays on a planar microstructure.
