Abstract:

The scope of this work is the investigation of the influence of local changes in oxygen dynamics in a mixed oxide catalyst (Mo8V2W0,5Ox) for the selective oxidation of Acrolein to Acrylic Acid via operando Raman spectroscopy. Further operando Raman studies are performed for the selective oxidation of Methacrolein to Methacrylic acid on Mo8V2W0,5Ox. For the investigation an operando Raman cell was developed and built in an operando Raman microscope set up with motorized XYZ sample stage. A method for the identification of redox sensitive signals in metal oxides is introduced. The Raman set up and the developed method are validated by studying the oxygen hydrogen reaction on a CeO2 catalyst. Afterwards the technical relevant mixed oxide system is investigated. The results of this study give evidence for direct correlation between the degree of reduction and the integral selectivity towards corresponding acids for the selective oxidation of alpha, beta-unsaturated aldehydes. The spatial resolved investigation of the catalyst bed under process-relevant conditions reveals a local change in the degree of reduction. Along the catalyst bed the degree of reduction increases along the flow direction. The development of the gradient depends on the oxygen content in the gaseous reaction feed and affects the integral selectivity towards the corresponding acids. The slower reaction rate of the conversion of Methacrolein to Methacrylic acid is linked to the increased formation of coke deposites during selective oxidation on mixed oxide.
