Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is the development of electrophoretic methods for the separation and characterisation of synthetic polyelectrolytes. Methodes for indirect UV-detection and contactless conductivity detection have been developed for the analysis of non-absorbing polyelectrolytes with capillary electrophoresis (CE). These methodes have been applied to the analysis of polyacrylic acid and polymethacrylic acid by CE. New methods have been developed for the separation of complex polyethylene glycol/polymethacrylic acid-copolymers according to charge density and the chemical composition. For the separation of high molecular polyelectrolytes an optimized capillary gel electrophoresis (CGE) have been developed. The hyphenation of CE and MALDI-TOF-mass spectrometry leads to a comprehensive separation and characterisation of synthetic polyelectrolytes.
