Abstract:

Alternative AbstractLanguage

Hydrothermal carbonization can convert biomass in water at mild reaction conditions (150-250 °C, < 40 bar) into an energy rich biocoal. This CO2-neutral biocoal can now be used as energy or carbon source. Usage of biomass and its wastes is through changing composition a very complex topic, therefore biomass components are investigated separately in the HTC process. This work focusses on the model substance D-xylose and its degradation product furfural, but also on the comparison of the reaction behavior of the biomass model substances cellulose, lignin and D-xylose with real biomass.
