Abstract:

Vibration in machinery affects the long time duration, therefore customers demand increasingly tighter limits. In rotating machinery usually the unbalance-caused, synchronous content dominates, the problem is solved by balancing. Industrial scale balancing is carried out today by the coefficients-of-influence method, which is difficult and tedious and doesn’t always lead to satisfying results. Model-based methods without test-weights are not yet established due to insufficient accuracy of the model and the higher engineers’ effort. The here applied method “Model-based balancing, unbalance identification” starts with the modeling part. A Finite-Element-Model is used to calculate the matrix of coefficients-of-influence beforehand. A first measurement run gives information about the state of vibration of the rotor, then a first test weight or a preliminary set of counter weights is obtained using the unbalance identification. For that, new mathematical algorithms, such as the Tikhonov-Regularisation-Method combined with the Morozov-Diskrepancy-Principle, are applied. The change in vibration between the run with the test weights and the first run is used to update the model, afterwards another unbalance identification takes process. The procedure is undertaken until the rotor is balanced and the FE-Model is updated. This newly developed procedure shows a faster convergence, only a few, target-oriented test runs are needed, the unbalance correction starts after the first run. Application of this procedure requires a permanent comparison of measurement and calculation, the feedback of the results to engineering and design causes a long-term improvement of the FE-Models. The unbalance identification improves the balancing result. Knowledge of the axial unbalance distribution allows the elimination of the cause of vibration, therefore the balancing result is highly independent of the mounting conditions.
