Abstract:

Aim of the thesis was the modification of biobased materials for an improved property profile of compounds with polypropylene. For this purpose, on the one hand, flax fibers were modified in order to achieve an improved fiber-matrix-adhesion and to reduce the moisture absorption of the resulting materials. Especially in terms of water absorption, significant improvements were observed in comparison to commercial coupling agents. On the other hand, Kraft-Lignin was used, which was also modified to achieve improvements in flame retardant properties and compatibilization with polypropylene. It was found that a finer distribution of Lignin in the compound and its modification with phosphorous-containing groups had a positive effect on the burning behavior of the composites.
