Abstract:

Aim of this thesis was the synthesis of polymer brushes-decorated organic nanoparticles. This class of materials has been considered in terms of two different aspects. Firstly, fully deuterated polystyrene particles were decorated with protonated polystyrene brushes by using Surface-initiated controlled radical polymerization methods to analyze the chain conformation via neutron scattering. The described particle morphology served as a model system for the analysis of interfacial phenomena in nanoparticles. In particular, the in spacing and length variable grafted chains enabled the investigation of the property profile of polymer brush-decorated nanoparticles. In addition, the developed synthetic route has been transferred to the synthesis of novel, surface bound ferrocene containing polymers. This emerged a new class of immobilized redox active polymers on nanoparticles.
