Abstract:

So dominieren in beruflichen Handlungskontexten Textformen bspw.

Reading is one of the central cultural skills that a person needs to be successful in the so-called information society. In everyday life and at work reading is essential, especially in a technologically advanced country like Germany. Nevertheless, companies and educational researchers notice that the reading skills of pupils have been identified in studies to be inadequate, even though these are regarded as crucial and indispensable basic feature of apprenticeship entry maturity. This study primarily pursues the aim to investigate the professional read requests and their differing requirement structures for reading-to-learn, i.e., read with the primary aim of acquiring knowledge. Particularly representation formats of the presented information are considered to support the derived from the analysis hypothesis that the cognitive processing processes run on a different basis. The Analyses present the current state of research to read requests and show the relevance of literacy. Reading comprehension is an essential competence to be successful in the majority of occupations. As part of this analysis, searches are discussed in detail in the German as in the Anglo-American language area. Here reading to do /reading at work will be examined with a view to dealing with other literary genres and mainly other representation formats as reading to learn. These include at the sides of descriptive textforms e.g. instruction texts with formal procedural instructions or conceptually oral but medial written instructions and guidance from colleagues or superiors. Further legal texts or even non-linear/depiktionale textforms such as hypertext, tables, forms, lists, etc. are subject of the investigation. In particular, hybrid forms are considered in terms of their distribution and their specific processing modes. Due to the work results, reading at work can be assumed as priority in the context of activity of a professional situation, i.e. to cope with a specific task. This hypothesis is supported by further investigations, a curriculum analysis in the present study and by the analysis of typical occupational reading situations. In this case, it is worked out on what theoretical basis the manufacturing processes and in particular, the integration of multiple multimodal representation can be modeled. Furthermore, the development of a measuring instrument for students of vocational schools is outlined and analyzed globally. For this first alternative test are instruments and test procedures examined in terms of their fit relating to the previously worked out theoretical requirements. The design of the test instrument is explained and then the results of a larger quantitative empirical study at vocational schools in Hessen, Lower Saxony and Thuringia with regard to the test method and the Items are shown. Then the instrument is subjected to a first evaluation.
