Abstract:

The main aim of the presented thesis was the investigation of possible applications for the retarded anionic polymerization. This special case of polymerization differs from the classic method in modifying the initiating system by using both sec.-Butyllithium and n,n-Dibutylmagnesium in various proportions. The investigations were focussed on the continuous retarded anionic polymerization of styrene in bulk and the possibility to apply this intiating system for polar vinylmonomers, for instance 2-vinylpyridine. Besides the blockcopolymerization of 2-vinylpyridine at 62°C (resulting in Polystyrene-b-Poly(2-vinylpyridine)) the usefullness of 2-Vinylpyridine as a coupling reagent for the synthesis of star-branched polymers was successfully established in this context.
