Abstract:

This thesis of habilitation combines four publications of the author treating different aspects of damage mechanics in a broad sense. These articles are discussed in a scientific scope. From a structural mechanical point of view some material models representing a loss of load carrying capacity and strain softening, respectively, are available commercially in between. Thus, such constitutive laws are industrially in use. Nevertheless, these material models imply a new quality of possible errors into computer aided simulations because of the resulting type of differential equations. This disadvantage of ill-posedness is not recognizable without a special training of the user of such simulation tools. The here discussed fundamental aspects could not really retard the above mentioned developments, still they are not of subordinate importance, because these aspects light up some known phenomenons.
