Abstract:

Alternative AbstractLanguage

The present dissertation is concerned with the development of new supramolecular alignment media based on 1,3,5-Benzenetricarboxamides (BTAs) for use in organic structure determination using NMR-spectroscopy. It describes both the synthesis of a selection of supramolecular building blocks potentially fit or this purpose and investigations regarding their respective ability to form liquid crystals or gels, as well as tests of applicability of obtained phases as alignment media. These investigations are further supplemented with studies on how specific modifications to the supramolecular building blocks’ structure can change self-assembly behaviour and the stability of obtained supramolecular aggregates – specifically regarding disrupting effects of further components of the system. This work thus demonstrates the broad applicability of BTA-based mesophases as alignment media and their easy modifiability as a key for solving application-based challenges.
