Abstract:

Alternative AbstractLanguage

This dissertation deals with the partial-oxidation of acrolein on Mo/V/W mixed oxide and heteropolyacid catalysts. By means of transient response methods, in particular isotope exchange methods (acrolein --> D₆-acrolein, produced from D₆-propene; H₂O --> H₂¹⁸O; H₂O --> D₂O; ¹⁶O₂ --> ¹⁸O₂), an extended catalysis mechanism was postulated. Kinetic modeling shows that the developed mechanism quantitatively describes both conversion and selectivities as well as isotope patterns. The comparison of the two catalytic systems shows many similarities in the mechanism, but also decisive differences which result in the different performance of the catalysts.
