Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to determine the effect of confinement on nanometer-size structures of polymers. For this purpose diblock-copolymers are filled in cylindrical nanopores and measured with the help of small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS). It is shown that under confinement different structures can be found compared to the bulk system. In addition, the flow behaviour of homopolymers into nanopores is investigated with the help of in-situ SAXS-experiments. There are dramatic deviations of the filling speed compared to classical theoretical predictions. In the bulk state diblock-copolymers show microphase separation. This leads to well-defined nanometer-size structures. Hence a sample system is investigated closely calorimetric and with the help of temperature dependant SAXS-experiments to determine the structural parameters in dependence of the temperature and phase transition temperatures. As confining matrices, nanoporous materials are investigated with the help of SAXS to determine all relevant structural parameters. Therefor well-suited model functions are developed to describe the scattering properties of the nanoporous samples. These nanopores filled with the diblock-copolymer show additional scattering contributions arising from structures of the polymer within the pores. The scattering image is investigated closely according to models of structures motivated by literature and prior measurement results of the samples. Hence the influence of confinment on the resulting microphase-structure in the nanopores is confirmed and analysed quantitatively.
