Abstract:

This dissertation deals with the development of alignment media based on helical-chiral polymers for the application in RDC-based NMR structure analysis. Different homo- and copolymers with different functional groups are prepared based on a liquid crystal forming polyisocyanide known from literature. The obtained lyotropic liquid crystals exhibit excellent orientation properties. These are further transferred to the "strain induced alignment in a gel" principle by synthesizing crosslinkable copolymers. Furthermore, graphene oxide is functionalized with helically chiral polymers such as the previously prepared polyisocyanides and the literature-known poly(phenylacetylenes). The functionalized graphene oxide is then investigated for its enantiodiscriminating orientation properties and solubility behavior. Here, the functionalized graphene oxide liquid crystals exhibit excellent solubilities in DMSO, THF and chloroform.
