Abstract:

Titanates show outstanding properties, like high-temperature stability, wear resistance as well as corrosion- and oxidation resistance. Furthermore it is possible to influence electrical properties of these materials via doping specifically. This is why they are commonly applied as sintered bulk ceramics, like Multilayer Ceramic Chip Capacitors or sensors for temperature control for electronic devices. The present work describes synthesis of core-shell micro-particles based on titanates via wet-chemical precipitation process with an ammonia/hydrogen peroxide solution and their characterization. By chang- ing pH and temperature, doped barium- and strontiumtitanates, which crystallize in perovskite-structure, are precipitated on different ceramic substrates. The substrates show influence on geometry and density of the resulting particles. Calcination of the precipitated and dried material at high temperatures in oxidizing and reducing atmosphere leads to a granular structure ontop of the substrate. Characterization is done employing different methods, like electron microscopy and x-ray diffractometry to mention the two most important ones. Furthermore, spectroscopy-techniques (UV-Vis, Raman, XPS) and thermal analyses (TGA) are used. The materials, which can be used as filler in polymers, are optimized for their non-linear electric proper- ties with the help of ‚design of experiments‘. Therefore, current-density J is measured while increasing electric field strength E on prepared filler-silicone composite materials. Parameters are defined and eval- uated which influence J-E-characteristic curve. This new development can be potentially used for field grading applications in high voltage engineering. By intelligently responding to high electric fields, the field become equalized and the durability of high voltage cables and accessories like cable joints or terminations is increased.
